Day 3, Monday

Image
Monday was our first full day and the ended up with some very tired missionaries. The work is long and hard, but we remember we are doing the work for Jesus and His people. Here is the day in pictures. Painting the siding that will go up for part of the building. Claire before her dress turned green! Miss Theresa dropped off her children at school  and offered to help Above:  Cameron and some helpers that stopped by. Right:  Vance, in extreme generosity had his entire suitcase  filled with shoes to give away.  Here he is offering some to Miss Theresa for the many children she cares for. There has been a lot of moving lumber.  You have to have fun with it sometimes!

Day 2 --to work!

Image
After the reception we spit into different groups and got to work.  Cheryl and Tricia and Vance spent most of the day doing runs in the truck to transport the wood needed for the building to the work site, A lot of work was completed on the building.  Mark, Deacon John, Andrew, Carson ( another missionary working in Belize), and Mr. Flores (a local man who worked with us). Put in a hard afternoon of work. Back at church, Ed, Chuck, Jan, Claire, along with Autumn, Cameron, and Gianna (Carson's sibling) did all the priming of the boards for the siding of the part of the structure that will be enclosed.  With great team effort we accomplished alot!

Day 2

Today after Mass the Divine Mercy Parish held a reception for us.  It was a great chance to meet some of the people of the parish.

Day 1: to Work!

Image
The team arrived today, everyone made the flight in time, even with the snow.  They were ready to get started, so after a quick lunch we were on the site and they were starting to build. We are building a 24' x 30' structure that will be used for Holy Mass and church outreach in this poor area of Belize City.  Many people that live here do not have transportation and getting to Mass is difficult.  Having this building will serve as a community center as well, for people to gather to visit, pray, and get out of the sun. Eventually the plan is to have homes for mothers and children in need, with a community of support to help them better their lives. Here are some views of what was done today.

I arrived in Belize today and began the final preparations for the mission.  I went out to see the site where we will be doing our main work.  Due to the size of the structure we had to have the footings done before we arrived.  We hired some local labor to do this work. The area we are building in was quite swampy so we also had some landfill put in before the work began. We are undertaking a big project, but I have faith that our team can do it! Thank you for all the prayers; This trip would not be possible without them.
